My sweet older sister's recipe...I think it was originaly from a Martha Stewart cookbook, so we can't take all the credit. :) Enjoy!Chocolate Pepper Cookies
Ingredients
* 1 1/2 cups butter, room temperature
* 1 3/4 cups white sugar
* 2 eggs
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1/4 tsp kosher salt
* 1/3 tsp black pepper
* 1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1 tsp ground cinnamon
* 6 oz semisweet chocolate chips, melted
Preparation
1. Sift together the flour, peppers, cocoa, salt and cinnamon.
2. In the large bowl of a mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture slowly.
4. Wrap the dough up and put it in the fridge for at least an hour.
5. Preheat the oven to 350° and prepare some baking sheets, I use parchment paper.
6. Prepare a surface with additional cocoa powder and roll out about a third of the dough to 1/8″thick. Cut into any shape you choose. We like the heart shaped cookie cutters .
7. Bake the cookies for 8 to 11 minutes. Don't let them darken in color. They will be very dark from cocoa, so your first batch is your test batch. Crisp is the idea here.
8. Cool on a rack and drizzle with the melted chocolate. We never drizzle them with chocolate, but I am sure they would be good that way. One time i did mix a tiny bit more cayenne with cinnamon and powdered sugar ..sprinkling that on top...Now, that was good
