Suzik on front page of Etsy

I just found Mom ( Suzik.etsy.com)
on the front page of Etsy! I try to save all of her front pages. I am especially pleased because I had a lot of fun taking photos of her temari balls. I took them with us to the beach. The condo we were staying at had these two really fun bedside lamps, little yellow beach houses! Absolutely adorable :D It gives me ideas to make more lamps... And even more ideas of how to arrange my personal giant collection of Temari balls.

beginning August...

I have been so bad about keeping up with this blog! Hmmm...I had a wonderful time at the beach. I only took one photo of myself, and of course I am hiding behind Brent. :D I got a sunburn the first day, while hiding under the umbrella with 45 SPF on. I think the sun must have reflected off the sand. Because I diligently reapplied every thirty minutes or so. The sun hates me. I think I took that photo in the first few minutes we were downstairs, and look how flushed and pink I look! Needless to say I didn't join in on the fun and games. I lurked and read three books this week: The Nanny Diaries, The Time Traveler's Wife ( reread, wonderful book), and Jane Eyre.

June 2, 2008 Catching up

The most exciting news for me lately is Brent, my darling husband's Lazik surgery this past Thursday. The main challenge after the surgery was to help keep him from trying to use his eyes much. So during the weekend, I had all the curtains drawn and we listened to the second book from Phillip Pullman's wonderful trilogy His Dark Materials . It's really a fun production. The author is the Narrator complete with a full cast for all the speaking parts. We listened to the first book on the road when we went on our honeymoon this past December. Romantic, right?
Doesn't he look sexy in padded feet? He'll probably kill me if he sees I posted this here...hee-hee-hee. He is healing beautifully by the way and can see 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 !!! in the other... I am so jealous.
Maybe that is a goal I can budget for next summer.
I moved my easel into the living room so I could work while listening to storytime together. I got a lot done, and he actually enjoyed his enforced down time. I know he was dying to get on the computer and work. I am very proud of him for resisting.

Cayenne Chocolate Cookies

My sweet older sister's recipe...I think it was originaly from a Martha Stewart cookbook, so we can't take all the credit. :) Enjoy!

Chocolate Pepper Cookies
Ingredients
* 1 1/2 cups butter, room temperature
* 1 3/4 cups white sugar
* 2 eggs
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1/4 tsp kosher salt
* 1/3 tsp black pepper
* 1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1 tsp ground cinnamon
* 6 oz semisweet chocolate chips, melted

Preparation
1. Sift together the flour, peppers, cocoa, salt and cinnamon.
2. In the large bowl of a mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture slowly.
4. Wrap the dough up and put it in the fridge for at least an hour.
5. Preheat the oven to 350° and prepare some baking sheets, I use parchment paper.
6. Prepare a surface with additional cocoa powder and roll out about a third of the dough to 1/8″thick. Cut into any shape you choose. We like the heart shaped cookie cutters .
7. Bake the cookies for 8 to 11 minutes. Don't let them darken in color. They will be very dark from cocoa, so your first batch is your test batch. Crisp is the idea here.
8. Cool on a rack and drizzle with the melted chocolate. We never drizzle them with chocolate, but I am sure they would be good that way. One time i did mix a tiny bit more cayenne with cinnamon and powdered sugar ..sprinkling that on top...Now, that was good

Fused Plastic!

I have a new project ...Yay! I just need lots of stuff to do, all the time. I have been wanting to try this ever since I stumbled across somebody else's fused plastic bag. Now I know I still need to put a handle on it. But I also need to go to sleep. Maybe I will get back to it during my lunch break tomorrow. Goodnight!
